Lagoa do Fogo

This was the house of my maternal grandmother's brother who was the Parish Priest of Matriz in Ribeira Grande for 46 years. Padre Evaristo Carreiro Gouveia.

José Luis and I spent lots of time in this house during our youth while visiting him with family members.  Lots of  great memories.

In 2007, on the 50th Anniversary of his death, the town paid him homage in gratitude for his complete dedication to the people of his parish and unveiled this bust in the church garden in his memory.
